IT Systems Architect – AS/400 Specialist & Automation Lead

Key Responsibilities

• System Oversight & Maintenance:

  • Manage daily operations of IBM AS/400 systems, including patching, upgrades, and monitoring the physical architecture.

  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation with routine backups.

• Code Analysis & Diagnostics:

  • Analyze system code logs to determine if issues are related to IBM system problems or require developer intervention.

  • Interpret exit codes and built‑in security coding in CL to ensure robust system performance.

• Automation & Programming:

  • Develop, update, and optimize automation processes using RPG and CL within the IBM Power Systems environment.

  • Collaborate on modern development initiatives, leveraging technologies such as Node.js and Java (with upgrades to Java 17).

• Multisystem Architecture & Integration:

  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of multisystem architectures and interface with APIs to maintain seamless connectivity between modern and legacy environments.

• Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide hands‑on support and guidance to system administrators, laying the groundwork for a future leadership role.

Required Qualifications

• IBM AS/400 Expertise:

  • Hands‑on experience is a MUST. Extensive proficiency with IBM AS/400 (or AS400/AS/400) systems, including RPG and CL coding, is required.

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Solid background in automation and programming within IBM Power Systems, with the ability to analyze code logs, interpret exit codes, and facilitate client access.

• Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with modern development platforms (e.g., Node.js, Java) is highly beneficial.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean record; capacity to meet physical requirements (lifting up to 50 lbs and working in diverse environments).

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or IBM virtualization systems.

• Prior leadership experience in managing system administrators or engineering teams.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $120k–$150k (up to $150k for candidates with 20 years of experience).

• Time Off: Three weeks of vacation.
